Through You
I’ve read John 1:7 a million times over the years. At least! But the other day I noticed something I had never seen before. John 1:7 says: ” He came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him.” John the Baptistcame as a witness to testify about the Light, so that everyone might believe through him. His mission and his attitude was that everyone would believe - through him. He didn't succeed. Not everyone believed. But a lot did! Through him. Was he on an ego trip? Was that an audacious thing to think, that everyone might believe through him? Maybe he was so confident in the message - not a scripted sermon - but a Person, that he felt all would believe through his testimony. Maybe he was so filled with the Message - the Person - that he was just a window for Him to shine through. Maybe he was so occupied with the Person that he could not see any other possible outcome. Maybe….
God always uses someone. That’s how He works. We, like John, have received a commission to testify - not that we are supposed to wear a leather girdle and eat grasshoppers and honey. If you did that, you would certainly get attention, but you may not be much of a testimony. But we are called to be ourselves and testify. His Presence is in us! His love is in us! We are His message! So that everyone might believe through us. I want to be so consumed by the Message, that like John the Baptist, I am testifying that everyone would believe through me.
“Our presence is the delivery system of His nature, of His kingdom.”
